The Legendary House From The Movie “Home Alone”: What Does The House From The Most Beloved New Year’s Movie Look After 32 Years?
The 1990 New Year’s comedy film Home Alone became a famous Christmas movie all over the world. The main character, an 8-year-old boy, accidentally stayed at home and did not go with his family for the Christmas holidays.
He had to overcome his fears and defend the house from the robbers. In addition, he completely rethought his relationship with his parents, brothers and sisters.

The audience fell in love with the McCallisters and even their huge house became a separate character in the film, because it experienced many events and adventures.

Did you know that this mansion actually exists? It is located in the city of Winnetka, Illinois at 671 Lincoln Avenue. And after the release of the film, it became a local landmark. Many tourists come to the house to look at it with their own eyes and take pictures against its background.

For the 32nd anniversary of the painting, it was renovated and now fans can see how the mansion looks now and compare the interior with the one in which the McCallisters lived.

The brick three-storey house was built in the 20th century. The area of the house is 390 sq.m. There are 4 bedrooms, five bathrooms, a separate garage and even a greenhouse. The entire site covers an area of 0.2 hectares.

In 1988, the Abendish family bought it, they gladly let the film crew in for a year and a half, that’s how long the shooting lasted. The most interesting thing is that the owners did not leave anywhere, but were at home all the time watching the entire filming process.

Director of the film Chris K. recalled, “We needed to create a house that was suitable for stunts, as well as a house that was visually appealing, but the atmosphere was warm and menacing at the same time. This is the kind of house where, if you were a child, it would be fun to be alone.”
