The 65-year-old actor revealed on Graham Bensinger’s YouTube show that he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder. The veteran star of films such as Rocky 4, Universal Soldier and Aquaman was diagnosed with it in 2015.Lundgren revealed that a tumor was found in his kidney, which was later confirmed to be malignant after it underwent a biopsy. Subsequent scans were conducted every six months and then annually, eventually indicating that everything was good after five years. Despite the measures taken, the cancer returned in 2020. This time the doctors found six metastases in his kidney and liver.
Due to the immense size of the growth, surgery was not an option for Lundgren, so she had to go for chemotherapy. Unfortunately, this treatment caused her numerous negative side effects as a martial artist. “My mouth got very sore, my arms and legs ached, and he couldn’t eat anything warm or cold, anything spicy,” explained his young bride Emma Kordal. “It was a struggle with food and he kept losing weight.” At one point, the doctors told the actor that he had lost, and Lundgren resigned himself to the fact that he would die soon.
“The doctors started saying things like, ‘You should take a break and spend more time with your family.’ So he asked: “How much do you think I have left?” – recalls the Aquaman star. Dr. Drakaki found a significant mutation in one of the common lung cancer tumors which opened up new opportunities for treatments. According to Lundgren, after three months, the tumor size had reduced by 20-30%. Consequently, an operation became possible.
After beating the disease, Lundgren has learnt to appreciate life and feels fortunate to be living. He remarked that he “values life much more” after this incident.On May 2, 2023, fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin sadly passed away from kidney cancer with metastases.
