‘Darkest period’: Johnny Depp has put up for sale a portrait he painted during his courtship with Amber Heard
Amid laughter and reflection, the 60-year-old actor, Johnny Depp, is ready to bid farewell to a poignant reminder of his tumultuous past with ex-wife Amber Heard. The iconic actor and singer recently unveiled a self-portrait, valued at £1,950 (230 thousand rubles), that he painted during the darkest period of his life – the five-year legal battle with Amber Heard over domestic violence accusations. As the former lovers faced off in courtrooms on both sides of the Atlantic, Johnny staunchly denied the allegations from the outset. However, he faced the brunt of cancel culture even before the verdict, as new roles and his band’s tour were abruptly halted. But now, with the defamation suits finally settled, Johnny is relieved to close the door on this painful chapter.
The self-portrait was inspired by a photograph taken during a Christian Dior Parfums shoot in 2015, where Johnny was introduced as the face of Dior Sauvage. In creating the painting, he wanted to pay homage to Dior for standing by him through it all. Describing the artwork, Johnny shared how it was crafted in Ralph Steadman’s studio in 2021, during a time of darkness and confusion. Titled “Five,” the self-portrait symbolized the impending fifth year of the madness he endured. Through intense introspection, he captured his emotions, hoping viewers would find something meaningful in the eyes he had depicted.
Post his victorious court battle, Johnny Depp has successfully reclaimed his position in Hollywood and beyond. In contrast, Amber Heard now faces the repercussions of her actions and has been affected by the cancellation culture. However, amidst the challenges, she found solace in motherhood, welcoming her daughter Una in April 2021.The painting, a powerful reflection of Johnny’s journey through adversity, represents not only his artistic expression but also his resilience in the face of turmoil. As the actor moves forward, he leaves behind this poignant reminder and embraces the new chapter life has in store.
